The renowned blogging platform Medium has just unleashed its first ever iPhone app, which is a read-only content aggregator that enables users of the online platform to swiftly browse followed collections, view significant recommendations and discover new stories of interest.
Contrary to its web counterpart, iPhone version is just read-only and lets users to access a wide variety of published articles by first logging in using their Twitter account, as it’s a main component of its web platform.
Once you sign in, the app which is extremely elegant with a simple user interface, hand-picks a reading list depending on the people you follow, trending stories and other collections that you are already subscribed to on the web platform. Like the standard Medium site, all the stories are organized into collections, allowing you to easily discover the content.
The service co-founder, Ev Williams has said that the app was created over a 6 month period and it is specially designed to be simple as the major crucial part of the company’s work is content, software as well as design should not get in this way.
The app supports simple swipe gestures; just swipe left to read a new story at any moment, while you can bookmark, suggest, and share the content on social networking sites. When someone has recommended you a story, his/her image is displayed next to that as you can trust the people you are familiar to help discover the stories that matter to you.
For now, the app is only available for iOS users. The company hasn’t mentioned anything about the launch of Android version.
