The prominent ebook subscription service, Oyster has launched a revamped version of its reading and lending iOS app with a fresh design, including iPad support.
Oyster, which is formally depicted as the ‘Netflix for ebooks’, provides access to thousands of titles, from including bestsellers and classic books for $9.95/month. For now, the service is only available for iOS users.
The iPad version works just like other similar apps like iBooks, enabling users to choose content from the ever-growing library of the app. You can flip pages through scrolling, and can read the content either in portrait/landscape mode. The app also features a darker night time reading mode that provides you a perfect tone optimized for night sessions. You, and downloaded books can be synced across your devices.
Besides iPad support, the update also brings a new iOS 7-inspired design. Moreover, the content discovery has also been enhanced by adding additional recommendations as well as genre-based recommendations. The ‘Recently Added’ titles are now highlighted on the home screen. In addition, the book opening animations have also been enhanced, and a ton of bug fixes have been included.
The latest version of Oyster is downloadable via Apple App Store for free. You need to pay $9.95/month for an Oyster paid subscription, but the company is now offering a 30-day free trial access for new users.
