The latest web version was made available on the FTP servers last night. Now, the browser has been launched on the Firefox.com and all the existing users can download the update automatically. Whereas the Android version is downloadable via Play Store.

The major addition in the update is the Web Audio API. Though the desktop version already has some audio support, the new Web Audio API enhances the existing audio API, allowing users to build better audio engines.

Here’s what’s new in the desktop version:

  • Added Web Audio support.
  • You will not encounter ‘Find’ bar between tabs.
  • You will be able to move another browser’s history and settings to Firefox.
  • Even if you reset the browser, your browsing session remains unchanged.
  • For developers: Added CSS3 background-attachment local support.
  • For developers: Several new ES6 functions have been implemented.
  • HTML5: the iframe document content can be specified inline.
  • Rectified an issue that resulted in missing/blank thumbnails when you open a fresh tab.
  • Other security fixes.

Here’s the complete changelog of the Android version:

  • There’s a Guest Browsing option.
  • Mixed content blocking provides the ability to protect users from MitM (Man-in-the-Middle) attacks and eavesdroppers on HTTPS pages.
  • Addons will include indicators to the URL bar.
  • Included locales like Irish, Ukranian, and Romanian.
  • For developers: Remote debugging can be activated with the browser from settings menu.
  • For developers: Added CSS3 background-attachment local support.

Guest Browsing is definitely an interesting feature available on Android. This feature allows you handle your device to others without having to worry about them viewing your browsing history, passwords and other personal data.

The Guest Browsing feature locks all your personal data and provides a fresh profile to the guest, which will be erased once the guest closes the browsing session. Just go to the Firefox Menu button and then select tools and click on ‘New Guest Session’ to activate the feature.
