OneNote App for Windows Gets Support for OCR, Camera Scanning and Many

Microsoft has just launched a big update to its adorable OneNote app for Windows. The revamped app comes with a plethora of new features, enhancements have been particularly made to the app’s ability to discover, capture and display notes.

Firstly, the app now supports Windows 8.1 Share Charm. When you are viewing something on your screen that you want to save it for accessing later, you can just capture that and then select the app and send it over. Simple!

Whereas the Camera Scan feature enables you to take pictures of your documents as well as whiteboards using your device’s in-built camera. The pictures are then rotated appropriately, cropped perfectly, straightened, sharpened, and shadows are eliminated automatically in order to make them look like a clean document.

You can even take the advantage of the app’s OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology in order to search for text in an image. Once you have found the content you are searching for, you will be able to copy and paste the text from the image to the clipboard.

If you use multiple notes, you would get lost when you are trying to search for a recent notes. This is particularly troublesome when using the app with several devices. Thanks to the OneNote revamp which offers a recent notes view that shows all your recent work drawn from all your devices, along with those on other platforms like iOS and Android.

Moreover, the app brings page preview feature that presents a preview of the notes, along with snippets of the text, ink content, and images from each page, instead of just showing the page title. This feature also helps you find things quickly.

The update also brings enhancements to Ink support, which offers a more natural inking. In other words, when you are writing with a stylus you will feel like you are using a real pen on paper.

The updated version also brings a full screen view. This features is automatically turned on when you open a page on mini-tablets, and on the larger-screen devices, you can access this feature by manually selecting the full screen mode via the Full Screen app bar button.

The latest version also includes plenty of bug fixes as well.
