BlackBerry has revealed an update for its Messenger app on iOS and Android, which brings a plethora of new features. Most of the new features and enhancements available in the iOS update were also made available for Android version.


First up, let’s have a look at what’s new on iOS:

The latest version of BBM has received support for WiFi-only iPod touch and iPad. Users will be able to open the app without cellular data network.

iOS users will now be able to invite their friends (BBM contacts) to BBM groups through email. The newly added ‘Tell Your Friends’ feature helps people to stay connected with each other with the service. And, users are also allowed share their BBM PIN as well as PIN barcode on their desired social networking sites.

iOS version has also received the following features in this update:

  • Fixed a bug where few users would be lacking BBM Contact names.
  • Resolved some problems experienced in right to left language support.
  • Performance enhancements.
  • Other bug fixes.

Whereas, the Android version has also received a bunch of welcome new features this time. Here’s the complete changelog of the latest Android app:

  • Added BBM Contact categories.
  • Ability to sort the list and filter in BBM Groups.
  • There’s a new ‘Tell your friends’ feature that helps users to connect with their dear ones on BBM.
  • You can quickly share your PIN as well as PIN barcode to your desired social networking sites.
  • Rectified a problem where some users were experiencing higher battery use.
  • Performance enhancements.
  • Other bug fixes.
