WeChat, the acclaimed messaging service that’s aiming to chat up new users around the globe, has rolled out an app for Mac. The new Mac version is easy-to-use – it brings gratifying basic messaging and file transfer options and is available in both English and Chinese languages.

To get started, login to the Mac app by just scanning a QR code to sync your mobile version. Once you are in, you will be able to send instant text messages, images, supported emoticons, stickers and screenshots.

Rather than introducing a completely new software, the company have repackaged the Mac version in an attempt to compete against its rival LINE, a communication app designed and developed by Naver Japan.

LINE holds a huge number of users in Taiwan as well as Japan and already has both Mac and Windows desktop versions. But for now, WeChat is only available for Mac users, Windows users need to wait a bit for their chance. A Windows version is expected to arrive at some moment in the future.

Mac users can grab the WeChat app right from the link provided below. The application is available for free and it requires Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or up firmware.
