Adblock Plus today finally launched a new beta extension for Safari users. This latest extension ensures to offer the same features as for Opera and Chrome. Adblock is now available on all the major web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
This latest extension is available for Safari version 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, and 7.0 (with some bugs). Yet, the extension still consists of the following issues:
- Popups are not blocked.
- The number of ads that are blocked for the page being used currently will sometimes not reset when opening a new page (only for Safari 7.0).
- Icon popup contents will not get updated sometimes when loading a page into a new tab (only for Safari 7.0).
The company has included a new abstraction layer to the code of Opera and Chrome versions so that the Safari incarnation could utilize the same codebase. As a result of this, the features and improvements that are rolled out in the future could be made available for all the 3 browsers.
The company reports that the Safari’s extension API is more finite than that of other browsers; the requests that are issued by third-party plugins such as Flash and the XHR requests aren’t blocked.
